The ride home

The taxi ride home was quiet. Galion was sated, full of wine and good food. Penn, though, was pensive.
"How do you think things went? With Erestor, I mean. Do you think he liked me? I did leave the kitchen in a hurry..."
Galion turned his head and wrinkled his nose. "Believe me when I say you're not the first elf that Erestor has sent running." When Penn's brow began to crease, he amended his comment. "I think he was very impressed, though the word 'naive' may have come up in conversation."
"Great," Penn huffed. "I wish I were more like you...in better control of my emotions instead of having them bubbling up all the time."
"You're fine. And you are naive compared to crusty old Erestor and me. We're ancient. Seen it all, done it all, wrote scrolls about most of it. Better a touch naive than jaded." Galion's smile strained just a bit.
"And Gildor? What did you think of him?"
Galion tilted his head as he considered his answer. "More genuine than I expected him to be. Sincere. Well-spoken, though quiet.. Honestly, I think you two are well-matched."
Penn lit up like a lantern. "Yeah, I think so, too."
Galion chuckled and turned his head to look out the window. Penn was already in love, he knew it, even if Penn wasn't aware of it yet. It was only a matter of time.
